SUMMARY:

Nestled in the 500-year-old historic Spanish colonial city of Old San Juan, Villa Vejigante is the ideal basecamp for small groups or families to explore Old San Juan history, restaurants, shopping, and nightlife. The villa has 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, and a kitchen. You will love the retro/funky decor and the combination of old-world colonial design. The location is ideal for those looking to be close to the action in Old San Juan; located a few steps away from Fort San Cristobal and a few blocks away from the busy nightlife and restaurants of Calle Fortaleza and Calle San Francisco. The villa comfortably sleeps five adults.

NOTE ON COMMON AREAS: The exterior of the building, building entrance, and hallways are in poor condition but the interior of the apartment is very well maintained and decorated. 

ALSO NOTE: There is currently poor water pressure in unit. 

 

COVID-19 NOTES:

1) PRE-ARRIVAL COVID TESTING: Travelers entering any of the Island’s three open airports are required to fill out a Travel Declaration Form through the Puerto Rico Health Department’s online portal, get a PCR molecular COVID-19 test (nasal or throat swab) no more than 72 hours prior to visiting the Island and show proof of a negative result.  These are strict government regulations and we encourage you to please visit the link below for the latest travel requirements to the island. 

 
 
2) MASKS: Masks are mandatory when in public and in all common areas. Please be ready to travel with and bring masks for your stay. 
 
3) CLEANING PROCEDURES: We have updated our cleaning procedures to include industry best practices in response to COVID-19. We are using disinfectant cleaning products on all surfaces and are programming a 24 hour gap between check-outs and check-ins. Our cleaning staff wears PPE during the entire cleaning and disinfecting process. 
 

LIVING AREA:

As soon as you enter the villa you are welcomed into the living/dining area. It’s 70’s ceramic floor tiles, retro furniture, and mint wall paint creates the tone for the decor; while the Vejigantes and Three Kings wall accents reflect the folkloric history of Villa Vejigante’s location. The property features a classic rattan white-colored sofa, reading chair, and a small coffee table; the perfect spot to enjoy some relax time. There is a 4 person dining room table across from the sofa as well as a Juliette style balcony overseeing Fort San Cristobal. 

 

SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS:

There are two bedrooms in Villa Vejigante that comfortably sleeps five adults. The master bedroom features a full-size bed, TV, A/C. Right next to the kitchen is the 2nd bedroom which features a bunk bed with a full-size bed underneath and a twin bed at the top. The room has a TV, and an A/C. All are well-appointed for a good night’s sleep.

 

KITCHEN:

Villa Vejigante has a comfortable and fully functional kitchen. Recently renovated with a white quartz countertop and subway tiles; the kitchen has a microwave, stovetop, toaster oven and fridge. We include enough paper towels, trash bags, and dish soap for guests to comfortably start their stay.

 

LOCATION:

Staying in Old San Juan is a truly unique experience. The charm and character you will experience in the 500-year-old are one of a kind. From Villa Vejigante you can comfortably walk anywhere within Old San Juan. We recommend taking a cab from the airport and using Uber or taxi while you stay at Old San Juan. This is a truly walkable location with everything you need a short walk away. Renting a car is not necessary unless you are planning on a road trip. The villa does not include parking. 

There are many things to do in the surrounding areas, here are some of our favorites, all within walking distance:

  1. Explore Fort San Cristobal and El Morro Fort. There are daily tours of the fort and the large green areas have spectacular ocean views. Take a tour, have a picnic, and fly a kite. This is a must-do.
  2. Have lunch at St. Germain Bistro & Cafe. A small, cozy and intimate restaurant with delicious food on the menu. Just a 4-minute walk from the property! 
  3. Explore the iconic Calle San Sebastian nightlife. There is a large assortment of bars on this strip which is a favorite among locals on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
  4. Have breakfast at “La Bombonera”. This is a Puerto Rican landmark well known for its locally inspired breakfast and pastries.
  5. Savor Stuffed Avocado. Healthy and “trendy” spot where you can create your own avocado bowl.
  6. Take a stroll around “Paseo La Princesa”, a waterfront walkway that you can start off at El Morro and finish of the walk with a rum tasting at Princesa Gastrobar at the end of the trail.

 

GETTING AROUND:

This property does not include parking. If staying within the general San Juan/Metro area, we recommend moving around via Uber. If you decide to rent a car, there are various paid parking garages around Old San Juan – pricing varies as some charge by the hour and others have a flat rate. 

 

AMENITIES:

West Indies strives to deliver top-notch service and amenities to guarantee our guests feel at home while visiting our properties. All of our properties are outfitted with freshly laundered bed linens and towels. We provide 2 bath towels per guest and 1 beach/pool towel per guest. Our properties typically include at least 2 beach chairs, and an ice cooler.

West Indies provides the disposable amenities necessary to get your vacation off to a comfortable start. These amenities include 1 set of hotel size soaps and shampoos per bathroom, 3 garbage bags, 2 rolls of paper towel, 2 rolls of toilet paper per bathroom, 1 dish soap, 1 dish sponge, and a small amount of laundry detergent. We do not provide unlimited disposable amenities. It is your responsibility to review what is included in the property and stock with whatever else may be needed for the duration of your stay.

 

HOUSE RULES:

  • Check-in time is at 4:00 pm
  • Check-out time is at 11:00 am
  • NO SMOKING: Smoking is strictly prohibited. A smoking fee of $500 will be charged if violated.
  • NO PETS: No pets are allowed at any time. A $300 fine will be charged if violated and you will be expelled from the property.
  • Building quiet hours are from 10:00 pm to 8:00 am. Please keep noise levels down during these hours out of respect to the neighbors.
  • The host will not pay for a hotel, vacation rental, or transportation expenses incurred because of an interruption in water or electrical service.  If water or electricity is interrupted for more than 3 hours, guests have the option of canceling their reservation and requesting a refund for the nights not used. Under no circumstances will we refund consumed nights.
  • All bookings are contingent on signing a short term rental agreement that will be sent via email. It must be signed within 48 hours of booking or before entering the property, whichever happens first.
  • Maximum occupancy of 5 adults/children at all times. This includes visitors. 
  • Max. occupancy is strictly enforced and exceeding it may result in immediate cancellation of booking or being expelled from the property.
  • Towels and linens must only be used for their intended purpose. Do not stain them with food, grease or any other substance. Do not use towels to clean up any mess. Stained towels/linens will be charged. 
  • Subletting not allowed
